From Averagist to a Gold Medalist - Recounting my journey!

Today, I stand before you with a heart filled with joy and a sense of achievement as I share my journey to a gold medal in the field of medicine. My name is Dr. Somanath Sharma, and I am honored to recount my path from post-MBBS to pursuing my dream of specializing in urology at the renowned Stanley Medical College.

After completing my MBBS, I knew that my passion lay in surgery, and I set my sights on entering a top surgical institute to further my skills and knowledge. Determined to succeed, I dedicated three years to intense preparation, leaving no stone unturned in my pursuit of excellence.

Finally, the day arrived when I secured admission to one of the most prestigious surgical institutes, a defining moment in my professional career. It was a testament to the relentless dedication and perseverance that fueled my pursuit of excellence. With immense gratitude, I embraced this opportunity and embarked on my journey towards becoming a skilled surgeon.

With the accomplishment of securing a place in a reputable surgical institute, I took a step closer to my ultimate goal of becoming a urologist. However, I knew that my journey was far from over. The dream of studying urology at Stanley Medical College beckoned me, and I committed myself to another year of rigorous preparation to make that dream a reality.

During this year, I immersed myself in the vast and fascinating realm of urology. I delved into textbooks, engaged in clinical experiences, and sought guidance from esteemed mentors. The challenges were immense, but my unwavering passion and desire to excel propelled me forward.

Finally, the day arrived when I received the news I had been eagerly anticipating, my efforts were rewarded with the state first rank in NEET SS 2018, solidifying my place in my dream college. I had been accepted into the urology program at Stanley Medical College—the culmination of my years of hard work, sacrifices, and relentless determination. It was a moment of triumph, knowing that I was about to embark on a journey that would enable me to make a significant difference in the lives of countless individuals.

As I look back on my journey, I am grateful for the invaluable experiences that shaped me as a medical professional. The challenges I faced along the way strengthened my resilience, honed my skills, and deepened my understanding of the profound impact that medicine can have on people's lives.

During my journey through urology, I achieved remarkable milestones. I completed my MCh (Master of Chirurgiae) program and was honored with double gold medals, including the prestigious TN Dr. MGR University gold medal and the Madras Urological Society gold medal. I presented various papers at regional, national and international level and won several accolades. These accolades not only recognized my academic excellence but also affirmed my commitment to this field.

To further refine my technical skills, I pursued a fellowship in advanced endo urology and laparoscopy at Preeti Hospitals in Hyderabad. This fellowship provided me with invaluable hands-on experience, enabling me to master cutting-edge surgical techniques and stay at the forefront of medical advancements.

Equipped with this expertise, I began my professional journey as a consultant at CURI Hospital. Here, I have the privilege of applying my knowledge and skills to provide exceptional patient care, working alongside a team of dedicated medical professionals who share my passion for urology.

I am grateful for the unwavering support of my family, friends, mentors, and colleagues throughout this journey. Their guidance and encouragement have been instrumental in shaping me into the urologist I am today.

As I continue on this path, I remain committed to pushing the boundaries of urology, advancing surgical techniques, and providing compassionate care to my patients. It is an honor and a privilege to be part of this extraordinary field, and I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.

 Hello,  After completing my MBBS degree, my journey to secure a PG seat was filled with ups and downs, marked by various rankings and challenges. Here is a summary of my rankings during the pursuit of my PG seat over three years: Year 1: AIPGMEE - Rank 22,300. Although this rank wasn't as favorable as I had hoped, it motivated me to continue my pursuit of a clinical seat. Year 2: DNB Entrance - Rank 5,000. Despite achieving a decent rank, I faced the unfortunate circumstance of no available clinical seats, leading me to prepare again for the next opportunity. NEET PG: Due to the implementation of a new system and scoring based on prometric psychometric analysis, I secured a rank of 10,600. Despite feeling confident about my performance, the scoring system didn't favor me, creating another setback. DNB: Rank 2,800.
